Our Boat

Explorado Bow

Here’s the TLDR.

She’s a big boat! At 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and weighing over 120,000 pounds she doesn’t move very fast. In fact, we’ll probably cruise around 8 knots (which is about as fast as we ride a bike). But that’s OK with us because at that speed she’s only burning about 4 gallons of fuel an hour. She holds over 2500 gallons of diesel and if we bring the speed back, we can cross oceans and go pretty much any where.

Luxurious yacht interior with wood paneling, a dining table with cushions, a kitchen area with black countertops, built-in sofas with decorative pillows, large windows, and potted plants.
A cozy bedroom with wood-paneled walls and a large bed with an upholstered headboard, white quilt, and decorative pillows. There are two bedside lamps, artwork on the walls, and a patterned rug on the wooden floor near the door leading to a hallway.

Our new home is roughly 1000 square feet, has three staterooms (bedrooms), 2-1/2 heads (baths) and even a tiny office. It’s small from the perspective of a land-lubbers home, but this is not camping. We have washer and dryer, deep freezer, five air conditioning zones, hot and cold running water and even full-time Wi-Fi thanks to Starlink. The onboard generator can run forever providing us plenty of electricity and power to all of our necessary equipment. And we’ll never run out of fresh water because she houses a 600 gallon water tank with a water makers that produce over 800 gallons per day. She even lets us take hot showers with a 30 gallon hot water heater.

Our boat even comes with a baby boat. On her top deck she carries a 14 foot dinghy with a crane that lifts her in and out of the water. The dinghy is basically our car and will use her to get to shore or explore beaches, little caves and nooks along the coast or take us to dive spots where we can’t otherwise reach. Did we mention she’s fast? She’s powered by a 70 hp Yamaha that boogies.

The Kitchen (galley) is fully equipped with an electric oven, a gas stove top, microwave, trash compactor, full-size fridge and a two-drawer freezer that includes an ice maker. The double sink and plenty of counter room allows us the space for entertaining or making a meal. We can also enjoy the gas grill on the deck for those nights we want to barbecue. The deep freezer in the utility room will hold plenty of food for those long trips away from a Costco. AND… the pilothouse has a great sitting area for those times we want to eat while underway,
